Recaptured from the Indians by the 2nd US Cavalry in 1877 less than a year after the famous battle and returned to the armory.
One of the Rarest Little Big Horn guns, Custer’s 7th cavalry troopers received 882 of these Colt SAA pistols in 1874 along with a near equal number of trapdoor carbines. Yet only a few of these pistols are known to exist. The Indians secreted them, the armory rebuilt them with a shorter artillery model barrel and several relics have been dug from the battlefield
