US Navy Captain Charles Stewart, commander of America’s most famous warship the USS Constitution – a solid gold sword presented by the State of Pennsylvania after his famous naval battle/victory over the British purchased directly from the Stewart family in Philadelphia. Given to him by the citizens of Pennsylvania (similar to Winfield Scott’s which was given to him by the citizens of Virginia). Made in 1816 of solid gold, by a goldsmith who was a freed slave living in Philadelphia by the name of “Liberty Brown”, presented to him right after his Naval Victory, the commander of the most famous warship in American History, only two other words made by this goldsmith are known to exist!
