Magnificent ‘Gold’ Civil War Presentation sword to Major General Rufus King, Commander of the Union forces during the strategic battle of 2nd Bull Run.
This gold and jeweled sword was presented to him in the field in March 1862 at Arlington House, which ironically was Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s home, confiscated by Lincoln’s government just a year earlier. Made by Bailey & Co., Jeweler’s in Philadelphia, Penn., only six other presentation swords are known to be made by Bailey.
The firm is considered to be the “Creator of the finest Art Form of swords during the Civil War, surpassing even Tiffany & Co. Jeweler’s of New York”
