Mexican War – Gold and Silver hilt presentation sword to Colonel Giddings – cased !

Jeweled, precious stone, gold and silver custom designed and made by Ames Mfg. Co. saber was purchased for $500.00 in 1847 and presented to him his for gallantry in that same year.  Purchased from his family through Sotheby’s in 1983 for $78,000.  Over thirty years ago! The finest US Cavalry Officers sword of the Mexican War, presented to him for saving General Winfield Scott’s wagon train of 150 US Army Supply Wagons enroute from Texas to Mexico to resupply American troops conquering Mexico in 1847.
